After 4 hours or so of travelling on a bus we arrived in Fethiye. We had booked a hostel online and had briefly studied the map the website provided.  We thought we would be able to walk it but after 30 minutes of walking in the sun and not really sure on where we were going we decided to head back to the otogar and catch a domuÅŸ The ride into the town centre took about 15 minutes, we were a little past the centre along the harbour (further than we thought and not really walkable). We then had to walk up a massive hill to our hostel.  We were really glad when we saw the sign, it had already been a long day.

We settled into our hostel and just hang out for a little while with some apple tea.  That evening we walked into the centre in hunt for some dinner.  We hadn’t eaten out in Turkey yet apart from in the Hotel in Pamukkale and a street side kebab. It was quite touristy and pricey, though it is mentioned in the guidebook Fethiye is more backpacker friendly so we continued in search of some cheaper food.  We did find some further back from the harbour, it was really yummy and not badly priced. It was eight or so when we started to make our way home to the hostel. Half way home it started to pour, we both got really wet. It took all the next day for our clothes to dry.

The next day and our only full day to spend in Fethiye we planned to see some rock temples and Kaya KÓ§y, an abandoned city. After breakfast we made our way into town and then in behind the town into residential areas with lots of locals and schools.  To get to the rock temples we had to walk up a killer of a hill, there was one temple that you can walk right up to for a closer look but for 5 liras each that you pay to the restaurant next door didn’t seem to be quite worth it.  It all seemed not quite official with the cardboard sign out front.  The temples looked great carved into the stone.  We can only imagine how long it would have taken.  There were only a few temples here. Nearby there is meant to be an area where there are lots of them. If we had more time we would have liked to have gone to see this, next time.

Kaya KÓ§y is about 15km from Fethiye, we caught a domuÅŸ to the ghost town and cost us 6 liras each.  We were quite surprised by the size of the city. It was a bigger place then we expected.  When we hopped of the bus an American woman
