Salzburg the second day
From EUROPE....no golf on this trip! in Salzburg, Austria on Oct 14 '07
Just a note about our wonderful guesthouse in Salzburg… It is quaint, very warm, and Franziska our hostess is a delightful lady with good English, good cooking skills, and lots of helpful information.
Our day started with a tour of the Hallein Salt Mine. We donned our mining outfits, rode the train into the mine, walked the tunnel, and then slide down the wood banister slides. During our walk down under we crossed over the border from Austria to Germany and back again. What a trip!
We saw Eagle’s Nest (Hitler’s Hideout on top of the mountains) while we were driving through some of the small villages. Back in Salzburg a quick visit to Mozart’s later residence and Mirabell Gardens, behind Mirabell Palace. (That’s where we discovered the dwarf garden) An early evening drive took us out to the Lake District. It was stunning. Tomorrow we are off to Mad Ludwig’s castles here in Salzburg…then we are off to Munich!
