After the excitement of the whale shark encounter we started our return journey to Perth revisiting a few places on route.
Baked red earth, dried -up river beds and shady gum trees were common sights as we travelled south. We walked gingerly along a rickety mile-long jetty amongst the mangroves in Carnavon and enjoyed more rugged views of the Murchison River in Kalbarri National Park; these were welcome detours from the main highway.
Passing through Dongara and Jurien Bay our last stop was at Cervantes. Here we wandered through thousands of strange limestone pinnacles in Nambung National Park, watching the colours change as the sun set and a full moon rose high in the clear WA sky.
