Ah, Americanna :)

We started off true to our late-night bias Tuesday by driving through the night from Milwaukee to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. (Don't worry, we took a few naps along the way) Thumbs up to the Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum, which contain fabulous pieces of American history such as the boyhood home of the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison's workshop and an original phonograph, presidential limos for Kennedy (yep, the one he rode in during the Dallas assassination), Reagan, FDR, etc., and the bus that Rosa Parks road on when she refused to give up her seat and ignighted the Montgomery bus boycotts. Eric's favorite exhibit was the original house of Noah Webster, author of the Webster Dictionary :)

HUGE thumbs up to the MoTown museum, an absolute gem of a museum northwest of downtown Detroit. The museum details the rise of Barry Gordy's MoTown from its headquarters -- "Hittsville USA." I actually got to sing in Studio A, where the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and so many others started! (Once again, our "Let's Go" travel guide comes through with an awesome recommendation!)

As for Detroit itself: Let's just say that those who claim Detroit is "not that bad" are lying! Tons of abandoned buildings, bars on all the windows, and everything looks pretty rundown and hostile. Also, the constant steam from the manhole covers is really only furthering Detroit's Gothom-City-like appearance!

Eric was excited to see the actual desk where Noah Webster composed his dictionary.

(Other noteworthy oddities: What is it with all the left turns at red lights? Even when it's legal, it's very unsettling...haha)

By dinnertime, we were ready to get the heck out of there, so we crossed the river to Canada. Now that we've escaped the Murder Capital of the US unscathed, there's nothing we can't do! We're currently in Chatham, Ontario, with plans to hit Toronto in the morning.

Thanks for following our travels -- more updates to come!

Hey! I love it! You're writing is second only to Dave Eggers -I can hear your voice saying EVERYTHING as I read it! Murder capital of the world? Wow...Detroit makes Jersey sound pretty. THat's awesome that you sat in Rosa's seat. I just spent the night in front of the White House (no joke) even if I am on business and not a super cool road-trip-delux. I can't wait to read more - LOVE YOU!!!!!
