Travelled by train to Bayeux from Paris on Saturday. Bayeux youth hostel was in a 500 year old building which is an old family home. So far the best one: Not many staying there at this time of the year. Went to see the Tapestry which Bayeux is famous for. Tells quite a story about an important time in French and English history and well worth the visit. Also had a look at the local cathedral. Bayeux is a quaint litlle French village with narrow streets and old buildings and quite a number of bakeries and patisseries. Had a relaxing Sunday wandering about-went to the local museum, read and sampled the baguettes. Madame Lefevre who ran the hostel prepared a little feast of typical french food for us that night. On Monday morning more wandering including a visit to the lace makers of Bayeux workshop. They make some amazing articles and it does not look easy. Caught the train back to Paris and had the night in a hotel near the Gare du Nord for a change.
