After the upper class leanings we developed in Carmel, we felt the only thing we could do next was to go do some wine testing. we headed inland towards Paso Robles, which sounds a little more interesting than it actually is.
However, before we had to write a song about it, we eventually found what we were looking for - a lovely winery nestled in the countryside about 5 minutes drve from downtown Paso Robles. It was really our GPS that found it. it also found the most expensive one in town aswell, which was worrying. While im on the subject of GPS, I've got to say just how much we absolutely love, honour and obey our GPS Sat Nav system.
We waited to see the other testers use the bucket but none of them went near it

We took it in the car from Vegas and I can safely say that had we not had it, we would have ended up renting seperate cars after a few days. Its the best invention in the world, apart from maybe the wheel - which is ironic really. It brough us all the way from Vegas accross California and right down the coast. Don't rent a car without one over here.
Moving on, the B&B in the winery was beautiful. it was called Summerwood, and they were so snobby that they dont even bother distributing their wine (Charles I gave them your number). They just wait sell the odd bottle or two to anyone who arrives on their doorstep. We relaxed in our lovely room with our free bottle of wine. The next morning we made it over to the winery for our free testing. So at about 11am we got stuck into the wine..I just tasted, but ciara swallowed. I was driving you see.

It almost went horribly wrong to be fair - we had never been wine tasting before, not like this anyway, so we didnt really have a clue what we were at. There's a bucket on the bar beside you - and it's full of wine. We thought, well, that must be where you spit it out right? We waited to see the other testers use the bucket but none of them went near it. Thankfully, before we decided to go for it, we had the sense to ask the barman what the deal was.
Apparantly, you just pour out what you dont want into the bucket...no spitting involved. We were quite relieved. I'm sure I have been educated on wine appreciation by one of the Alkens before - it really made me wish I'd listened!!

After our traumatic tasting experience, we got on the road again and headed back to Highway one - intending to see Hearst Castle and find somewhere nice to spend the 4th of July.
