Nice in Nice

So, after having an awesome time hiking the Cinque Terre we had to make our way to Nice in the south of France. We had to catch a train there which was supposed to take 5 hours and we were supposed to arrive in Nice by about 8 at night. Plenty of time to get some accommodation as we hadn’t booked in advance! But of course our good luck with transport had to run out sometime and the train took six or so hours because it kept stopping in random places and it was just shit.
We got into Nice at about 9:30pm and started looking at all the hostels in the main area only to find that they were all booked out! We were walking around in the dark with our packs on tired as anything until about 10:30 when we finally found a hotel that we had to pay 75 Euro for the one night. It was the most disgusting hotel I have ever seen in my life! So the next morning we got up early to find a nice hostel instead. We ended up staying at hotel Baccarat and booking for 3 nights coz it was good.

All up Nice was pretty, well, nice except the only thing you could really do was shop or hang at the beach during the day and then drink at night. I was a little disappointed because the weather was shit and Shane wouldn’t let me shop anymore as I had no room in my pack and he was lugging half my shit around in his pack as it was. So we did what most people would do in this situation and met a few people at the hostel and got pissed!
We had an awesome night at this bar called “Wayne’s”. Yes Wayno, I took a photo of the sign for you! We danced away maggoted as anything to a pretty ordinary cover-band but it was packed and we were in some pretty good form so it was great! One thing I will say is that going out is expensive in Europe so it’s best to get drunk on super-market alcohol then only have to buy one or two drinks when you are out. Shane and I are pretty much experts at this now but we got a little carried away when we downed half a litre of vodka each in about an hour and a half! We paid for it the next day: Shane slept all day and I was left awake watching French television in our room for the entire next day.

We couldn’t drink on our last night so we went out for dinner instead (We hadn’t been out for dinner for ages because of our backpacker budget but since we didn’t leave our room all day we had the whole day’s money to blow). I had steak and nearly wet my pants over it as I hadn’t had steak for three weeks! Shane had mussels and spaghetti. We walked around in the “old-town” and watched the best break-dancers I have ever seen in the street before going home to sleep even more.

The next day we realised that we had to catch a night train to Barcelona that night as it was a 12 hour trip. We ran into our mates Emma and Todd before we went to the train station and they had only just arrived so we organised to hook up in Barcelona when they got there. The train ride was fucking terrible and I will tell you why in my next instalment.
By the way, I have added photos for all my travel blogs to date so to see them just go back to the start to have a nosy if you all want.
