Rain, Rain, Go Away...

Our third week on Hiiumaa started off with a long awaited haircut. Sean had started to look like a character from Dragonball Z (big hair) and Adrienne hadn't had her hair cut since Holly and Ben's wedding in January. The hairdresser didn't understand much English, but when Adrienne said “I can see!” after her sun bleached fringe was cut, she laughed. A decent job was done, all for EEK120 (NZ$15).
We went to Kärdla (the capital of Hiiumaa) for the morning on Tuesday. To escape the freezing rain, we spent some time in the library where we found plenty of English books. We also found a brilliant little cafe called Gahwa that served a tasty espresso/hot chocolate. Fortified with caffeine and sugar, Priidu took us into the supermarket to buy heaps of interesting Estonian goodies: bread (oh, the bread is good!), kohuke, keffir, yoghurt etc.
We're pleased to report that there were no injuries or deaths.

While we were working in the rabbit farm, Priidu showed us a couple of 1 week old rabbits (very cute) and three birds that were learning to fly. The birds were perched on a ledge looking down at the seemingly huge drop, eventually building up the courage to take the plunge. We're pleased to report that there were no injuries or deaths.
Part of the work in the rabbit farm was cutting 100 x 100 mm posts with a handsaw. It didn't look too hard at the start but turned out to be really tiring! We don't know how loggers in the old days managed to saw through massive trees – give me a chainsaw any day :-D

Adrienne was unfortunate enough to have blood sweet enough for mosquitoes to enjoy. While working outdoors one morning, she managed to get bitten numerous times on her face, she didn't look quite so pretty anymore! The week ended with Sean finding out his work permit had been approved.
