Up early for our pick up and on to the ferry to the island. See a dolphin waggle her dorsal fin at us and once she has the full attention of the whole boat she leaps completely out of the water just off the portside, of course we all miss the photo oppotunity !

On arrival on the beach at Moon Point we are on to our 4wd bus and away with our guide Henning. We sit for 30 mins then as the single file sand track is blocked by one of the otherr buses and hs to be dug out ! This is a common occurance apparently hence it being an adventure tour ! Finally get going and we drive through a recently burnt area and then through bushland until we reach virgin rainforest. Here we get out and take a quick walk before boarding the bus and making our first tea stop - tea, cake and fruit -  yummy. Onwards to the main highway / runway - the east coast beach. We stop at Eli Creek - a fresh water creek which is delightfully cold so we walk the boardwalk and then paddle (knee deep I add) back to the bus. Next stop is SS Maheno - a rusty and not much left of wreck - take a photo and see some more sting rays - they are right in the shallows next to the beach - no swimming here - tis deadly. Lunch is next -  Henning does a BBQ and we eat salad, steak and fish with beer or wine. On again to Allom Lake where we take a walk and marvel at how the tall trees manage to grow on sand. Back across the island and we are first back to the ferry so have an hour to kill as one of the buses has hada problem - flat battery...so watch the sting rays from the boat. Home late as a result - long but wonderful day, hard to explain how amazing the place is like this but it's not a wrld heritage site for nothing !
