Never before had we been greeted by such thick fog as we did when entering the city of Gramado. It was truly unbelievable how little we could see while looking for a place to stay. Only as the fog cleared were we able to see how beautiful this place is...and quickly we realized that it would be out of our budget to stay here. We headed to the nearby city of Canela with the hopes of finding reasonable lodging, and were happy to find a little pousada on the outskirts of the city. However, this ended up being the highest rate we have had to pay thus far in our Brazilian adventure.

We had the interesting experience of spending the Brazilian independence day in one of Brazil´s least Brazilian places which prides itself for being Brazil´s little Switzerland. Even though it was pretty uneventful, we still got to enjoy a street parade in Canela and observe some of that Brazilian spirit in Gramado.

...and quickly we realized that it would be out of our budget to stay here.

It is impossible to go to Gramado and say that there wasn´t enough to eat!! You will either find yourself eating too many chocolates at the amazing chocolate factories, or enjoying a Café Colonial (which is literally a table full of food like pastries, breads, cold cuts, juices, wine and much more). If that doens´t rock your boat, you can always fondue it, or eat at the ¨all you can¨ eat German restaurants. This is definitely a great little town with enough activities to keep you busy for a few days. You can always escape the downtown area and go off white water rafting or hiking in the nearby parks. But all of this will run up a big bill at the end of the day, and if you don´t rent a car it is pretty hard to do it all on foot.

Nunca antes tínhamos visto uma névoa tão espessa como vimos ao entrar na cidade de Gramado. Foi realmente inacreditável o quão pouco podíamos ver enquanto procurávamos um lugar para ficar. Apenas quando a névoa se dissipou nós pudemos ver quão bonito esse lugar é... e rapidamente percebemos que estaria fora do nosso orçamento ficar aqui. Nós fomos pra cidade próxima de Canela, na esperança de encontrar preços razoáveis, e ficamos felizes em encontrar uma pequena pousada no subúrbio da cidade. Entretanto, esse acabou sendo o mais caro que tivemos que pagar até aqui em nossa aventura brasileira.

Nós tivemos a experiência interessante de passar o dia da independência brasileira em um dos lugares menos brasileiros do Brasil, que se orgulha em ser a Suiça brasileira. Mesmo não tendo muitos eventos, nós pudemos aproveitar uma parada de rua em Canela, e observar um pouco do espírito brasileiro em Gramado.

É impossível ir à Gramado e dizer que não havia o suficiente para comer!! Ou você vai acabar se empanturrando de chocolate nas maravilhosas fábricas de chocolate, ou aproveitando um Café Colonial (que é literalmente uma mesa cheia de comida como guloseimas, pães, frios, sucos, vinhos e muito mais). Se isso não te anima, você sempre pode comer um fondue, ou ir nos rodízios de comida alemã. Essa é definitivamente uma ótima cidade com atividades suficientes para mantê-lo ocupado por alguns dias. Você sempre pode fugir da área central e fazer rafting ou caminhadas nos parques próximos. Mas tudo isso vai terminar com uma conta alta no fim do dia, e se você não alugar um carro, é bem difícil fazer isso tudo a pé.
