DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1
Mum and dad drove us to the airport Schiphol in the early hours. We departedwith KLM flight 1665 to Barcelona. The departuretime was 6.30, but we only had handluguage and had already checked in through the internet 30 hours prior to the flight.

After a flight of 1 hour and 45 minutes we arrived at the Barcelona airport. We walked to the Aerobus and there was a huge line to buy a ticket. Many people know this fast and cheap way of transportation (€ 3,75 p.p.). We got of the bus at Placa de Catalunya and went straight to the Tourist information centre that is situated under the Placa de Catalunya. We bought a ticket for the Bus Turistic and walked to our hotel for about 20 minutes. It was a nice walk, because we already got to see a lot of the Gothic area with many historical building, churches and lots of nice balconies. Before you know it you are at the hotel. It is to early to check in so our lugage was stored at the hotel and we were off to explore the city.

We decided to take the Bus Turistic today to preview the greatest part of the city and to get of at the major points of interest who are to far away from the hotel.
Our first stop was at Placa de la Carbonera to get to Park Guëll. We have to transfer from the blue line route to the red line route. On the way to Park Guëll you see lots of beautiful buildings! From the busstop for Park Guëll it is a steap climb before the park entrance (admitance free). The park is designed by Gaudi. Very impressive is the massive hallway of thousand pilars, the stairs with the salamander of mosaic and the mosaic couche. The park is crowded with many people, because today is a special holiday and everybody in Spain also has a day off! The park has many walking trails which you can do at a slow pace and you will see all kinds of buildings with the specific Gaudi style.

Next we get on the bus to do the north and south route. There is so much to see, to much to mention all of them. Try to find the website of the Bus Turistic and you can have a look at the route. In the evening we found it hard to find a good place to have diner. From Henrie and Eric-Jan (colleagues) we got a lot of tips, but sometimes it was so busy at the popular restaurants that there was a huge line! We chose to have diner at restaurant Axel on Placa Reial. We had a very good paëlla with the four of us, it was really good! After diner we walked back to the hotel and it was not hard to fall asleep!
