A Day in Luxembourg

When I went to Luxembourg for the day I spent much of my time confused. I was under the impression that French was the official language. As I left the train station, all of the street signs were indeed in French. Then, being the classy, rich and not-at-all-fat person that I am, I headed straight for a McDonalds. Only to find that all the signs were in German. "Oooooooooh no!" I panicked. Do I ask for Un Big Mac or Ein Big Mac? Then I found out there's such a language as Luxembourgish too. They must all be at least tri-lingual!

I never did solve the mystery of what's the most commonly spoken language on the streets in Luxembourg but that didn't put a downer on my trip in the slightest as Luxembourg was a lovely place to visit for a day. They have a Royal family with guards manning the palace, much in the same bafflingly still way as they do at Buckingham Palace and you can tell there's definitely a lot of money in the tiny country by many of the spectacular buildings. All in all, I wouldn't travel for too many hours to come here but it's a great wee place for a walk around if you can make it there and back in a day. And you'll not find too many people that can say they've had their photo taken under the Luxembourg train station sign!
