Short Stop in Strasbourg

Strasbourg is well known for it's wine, sauerkraut and cathedral.  There is not a whole lot else to tell about the town, but given more time there, it would have been fun to explore.  The train stations were amazing, being rather ancient buildings and somewhat famous, having been in several movies over the years.  We took a very fast train from Paris called the TJV.  It goes about 200mph and it's so smooth that unless you try to watch the scenery up close or feel the pressure change when you go through a tunnel, you really can't tell you're going that fast.

We arrived in Strasbourg late morning and grabbed a bite to eat, of course trying the local sauerkraut, and then wandered towards the cathedral.  It was stunning sitting there, almost center of the town, towering above everything else.  The town itself is a fascinating mixture of French and German architecture.  Being so close to the German border, Strasbourg has been fought over for many centuries, finally ending up on the French side of the border.

The cathedral, towering over everything, was quite spectacular.  It had an astronomical clock in it and of course the stunning flying buttresses and stained glass windows, some having been replaced with clear glass from war.

It was a nice little stop over, and would be a fun town to explore sometime, having a beautiful river, an area called Le Petite France and many many shops.  We hopped on the train and headed for our next destination.
