Taking it easy in Belizee

We had a long day of travel to get from Flores to San Ignacio, Belize. That said, we managed to fit in a gorgeous brekkie before leaving Flores :o) En route to the border crossing we nearly ran over a cow, inspiring a discussion on the IQ of cows. I think those of us in the 'cows are stupid' camp won in the end! The lady at the border crossing tried to charge us all for leaving Guatemala - an illegal but common manouevre. When asked to show us the papers explaining this she realised she'd been hand & so stamped all our passports & let us go for free (as should be the case).

By major contrast we were welcomed into Belize by very jolly immigration officials & then caught a taxi to nearby San Ignacio. Our taxi driver pointed out some Mayan ruins en route which he said we could visit tomorrow. We thought not, somehow! We spent the rest of that day, & most of the following day chilling out at a posh resort atop a hill (owned by friends of our Hotel owner, so we could get in for free!). It had a great view over the town below, plus a nice swimming pool & bar. What more could a worn out backpacker wish for?! We tried to get a couple of taxis back into town, but when none arrived the owner of the resort gave us a lift back in her own car - a very kind gesture but not overly comfortable since we had to fit her plus seven of us in! I was sat on Rod's lap in the front seat, but had to hold my head out of the window as there was no room inside. The five girls had to share the back seat.
