Autopista? What Autopista?

From The Americas Tour in Trinidad, Cuba on Apr 24 '07

The Patagonians has visited no places in Trinidad

First we checked out a true working tobacco factory with no sales push at the end - in fact there isn´t even a shop to buy the cigars - has to be a first.

Then with great faith we hired a car in Havana and started our drive down to the South Coast.  We spent a while trying to find the ring round around the city but were still optimistic until we found out we had pretty much driven all the way around it looking for the turn off for the Autopista (the main motorway) and hadn´t seen a single sign post.  We soon discovered that there are actually no sign posts anywhere in Havana and after some very stressful reading of the lonely planet maps and sheer guess work we finally got on the motorway after 3 hours.

So we arrived in Trinidad very late and very tired and promptly got accosted by people trying to get us to stay in their casa.  We tried the only hotel in town instead for some peace but it was $150 a night!  So we ended up in a casa after all but as usual had a bit of a language problem so there was lots of sign language going on.  After a dinner in a pretty Paladar Sol y Son we walked up to the plaza and watched some african dancing and some salsa dancing with a few mojitos.

The next day we checked out the town and it looked much pretty by the light of day and after a nights sleep.  We went to the top of the museum and got a lovely panoramic view of the town and the surrounding hills.
