That's a tongue-twister, eh? But it's true...in fact one of the main reasons I decided to COME to Malaysia, en route to Thailand, was that my friend and co-worker MaryAnne (MA) said I should visit her friend Mari, a fellow, former Peace Corps volunteer! So, here I am in KL (Kuala Lumpur) and am having a fabulous time. First, I should say that I was surprised by the architecture of the city...Ty-Chi, if you are reading this, you would LOVE the buildings here. Visited the Petronas Twin Towers today and was hugely impressed...amazing feat of planning AND aesthetically pleasing to boot! The other "modern" high rises are also nice, and then you have the Malay/Chinese/Indian influences in various parts of the city...Hindu temples near Muslim Mosques near Buddhist shrines...pretty awesome multiculturalism at work...although, that said, I'm told that Islam runs a tight ship here, giving preferential treatment to those who practice the official state religion...but, that's a whole other topic for a different entry!
