So this is it.  It's my last night here at home before I head out, and I guess there's a lot of stuff going through my head.  Of course I'm excited, and of course I can't wait to get out and experience all the things I've looked at in pictures for so long, but it's a scary thing, and I think above all right now, I'm nervous.

Bags are packed, tickets are bought.  Passport is photocopied (about a dozen times).  Water bottles, sleeping bag, antibiotics, Imodium, tent, shirts, shorts, pants, socks, underwear, shoes, towel, laptop, you name it, it's all going on my back for an entire year.

Well, I guess I'd better get some rest.  The pictures, adventures, and stories will all come soon enough, and with them your e-mails and updates on things back home, I hope.  First stop French Polynesia.

Hey Marc! Happy 22nd Birthday. How does it feel to be in the place that you ACTUALLY ARE? We're nervous for you too, but I do believe this will be your most memorable birthday ever. How cool is it that you are actually living life? Too many people, including ourselves, have let life use us as spectators. You won't have that. Too much to do before the reality of life sets in. You know ,I initially thought the journal we bought for your trip was not really worthy of such an intersting trip. It was inexpensive and bland. When your mom allowed me to re-think it,as only she can, I realized the most well-loved books are those that are tattered and read often. What is more flattering to an 'author' than a book that has passed throgth many hands, and shown it's wear and tear? We're hoping that is the case for you.Partly for the sentimentality, and partly because we don't want the stigma of the 'bad gift-givers' ! Your dad and Uncle Stew are going to a concert this Saturday. Don't worry, I won't allow any flashbacks to the bong-smoking generation. Actually, I tink it's pretty cool that they are hanging out. Although we are different personalities, we really love your parents so much. I do give bubby and zade (?) lots of credit. It's nice to have people in your family that you actually love, in spite of any cultural, religious, or familial background. Maybe you can explore that for your next sojourn? Can you imagine the endless possibilities for the Kempinski and Corrigan families? Well, I"ll say goodnight now, after Jose Reyes just hit for the cylce. Only the third Met in history to do it at home. Uncle Stew and Dylan are at the game! Wish you were there too! Love you,and good night!
