We arrived in Sukhothai after a comfortable bus journey from Chiang Mai. We booked ourselves into a lovely bungalow and chilled out. Just as well - as half an hour later there was torrential rain.

The next day we took the bus to the old city. Sukhothai was the capital of Thailand for 150 years. There's an old city wall and many, many wats. We hired bikes and cycled around the old city for a few hours. It was very pleasant seeing the wats, some of which were reminiscent of those at Angkor. There's also a history museum which is worth a look, as it has artefacts from the temples and a large collection of Buddha statues, including a walking Buddha. It was all very interesting.
