Museum Day...that is until night came!

Thursday morning we all awoke for museum visits. My group went to the Prado where we saw Diego Velazquez’s “Las Meninas” which I found astoundingly impressing in person as well as many of Goya’s paintings. That afternoon a large group of students planned to travel to Seville, one of them being myself. However, as I did not have a Eurail like many of my friends the ticket would have cost too much and I opted to stay in Madrid as there was still so much to see and do. As we were required to visit the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum on our own time I though this particular afternoon would be a good opportunity. While most of the pieces were nothing extremely intriguing, I did find it refreshing from the typical Renaissance and Gothic style paintings we had mostly viewed thus far. I did, however, especially enjoy the special exhibition titled El Retrato, which housed portraits and self-portraits of some of the most famous artists such as Picasso and Van Gough. After my visit to the museum I went back to the hotel to find my friends sleeping. I woke them up and although we planned to go shopping, instead lounged around the hotel room just hanging out. Before dinner I took a nice long bath as we do not have the luxury of bathtubs at our house in Heidelberg. For dinner I once again went to the Italian Restaurant Kari and I found, this time with Nicole, Ashley and Sarah Wing. Once again an absolutely delicious meal! Once we returned from dinner everyone was set to go out (dinner in Madrid is between 8 and 10 p.m.). We ended up locating this amazing club called Palace. We had a blast! I didn’t come back to the hotel until around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning.
