Tom and I left for Swizterland on Wednesday after I finished up with class for the day.  It was a little hectic because we were doing some laundry and I miscalculated the time it would take for everything to dry...oops.  So in the end we had to pack some wet stuff and hang it up in the hotel room to dry, not a complete fiasco.  We got on the train and I thought there might be a food cart but since we were only going about a 2 hour distance there wasn't...another oops!  But we managed and I watched a movie while we were on the train and Tom read.

When we got to Geneva we went through Switzerland cutoms, which wasn't bad at all.  The problem was finding our hotel.  It said in Hotels.com that it was really really close to the train station but I didn't know which side exactly.  So I went to the ticket place (Billets) and asked for "une cartier".  Well let me tell you that I was really embarressed to find out that 'map' is actually "une carte" (may not seem like a difference to you...but it is in French) and I have been saying the word wrong for the past 3 months.  haha.  Anyways we walked outside and we could see from the train station "Hotel Suisse".  Lucky us!

in all we had a really fun time (well I did at least, hopefully he did too) and I am glad that he came and got to spend time with me

We checked into the hotel and dropped our stuff off (hung the wet clothes) and decided to set out and look for a nice place to eat.  After walking around forever we found a really great looking Italian restaurant.  It was about 8:30pm and we were so hungry that anything looked good at that point.  The food was delicious!  It's a shame that I can't remember the name of the restaurant because I would definitely recommend it to anyone who comes to Geneva!  I had some sort of shrimp and calamari type dish and Tom had steak.  He said his was great too.  After that we were pretty beat and just hung out and went back to the hotel room.

The next day we had the nice breakfast at the hotel, which was free and good!  It had all sorts of baked goods, croissants, breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc...  Then we went to the front desk and tried to figure out where we shoudl go.  The first part of the day ended up being some shopping and just walking around Geneva.  Geneva is a nice city, but it's not quite like what I imagined.  It is right next to Lac Leman and has a river that kind of splits the downtown area in two.  After shopping Tom spotted a little restaurant to have lunch and then we walked around the English garden.  We had a few bags by then so we went back to the hotel to drop off some of the stuff and then went back and walked along the river and took pictures.

We tried to find a nice place near the lake for dinner and made some reservations at a cool looking restaurant called La Pontaine.  Well...when we got there for dinner we were the only people there other than two girls who were obviously very friendly with the bartender.  The bartender was the only person working and he served us, made our drinks, and made our food.  Did I mention that he was crazy?!  He was so weird and he kept talking to me and Tom and we were just trying to have a nice dinner.  The girls who were there obviously  had too much to drink and were talking (loudly) and laughing (extremely loudly) and then while the guy was making our food in the kitchen, they walked downstairs to the kitchen and we could hear them laughing and talking while he was making our food.  Talk about uncomfortable!  Then he got our food and some water (even though we asked him for water 45 min before...and I'm not exaggerating I kept track) and it was not very good at all.  At the end of the meal he wanted us to come out to a club with him and his friends and go dancing...We had had enough by then and just wanted the check and left as quickly as we could.

We did want to have a beer at a pub or something and there was a pub near our hotel that we stopped by on our way home.  We had a few beers and then decided to go back to the hotel since our train left at 7:30am and I had class from 11-7 that same day.  Well our train was delayed about 25 minutes (of course, it's France!!) but we managed to make it back in one piece.

Friday night we went to a different Italian restaurant and that was fun but then Tom had to leave at 5am the next day so we headed back early (he had already packed while I was at class all day).

It was really sad to see him leave but I will be home soon.  All in all we had a really fun time (well I did at least, hopefully he did too) and I am glad that he came and got to spend time with me.
