Well after about a week of nothing really after Yvette and Chris left (school, walking around, movies, etc.) we ended up going to our first big concert in Europe.  Now we have been to many shows as you may have read but a concert is a horse of a different colour.  For a concert there are excited fans on the subway, anticipation that builds as you walk with strange crowds towards the venue, then there is the pat-down (and really, how often in your day to day life do you really get to enjoy and savour a good pat-down, try to enjoy the little things in life, eh?).  So, I don't think I've actually mentioned what band we went to see.  It's a band called Tool, a band that I imagine everyone reading this has in their record collection (or at least a couple of you), picture them as the Led Zeppelin of our generation, okay?

So we entered the stadium confronted by the massive cloud of smoke billowing above the people that had already gathered infront of the stage.  There are definetely a couple of things that I miss about Canada, the no smoking indoors being one of them, the other I can't think of at this moment.  We decided to get right to the front of the stage before it got too busy as it was all general standing and we know from experience that the front is the best.  We waited for a while before Tool finally came on (no opening band, strange) to the rumble of the crowd and the squishing of us.

They played a great show but only about ten songs long, but because each of their songs is like eight minutes-plus, I guess I can forgive that.  There were also four videos screens behind them that had great visuals to accompany and enhance the music as well.  For the encore break, instead of going off stage while the cheers grew, they just sat on the stage staring at us cheering them on!!  Americans, eh?  There was this one guy infront of us who had his head tilted fully back the whole show and during the more intense parts he would start head-banging but only in the back!!  We thought that he was going to backwards-headbutt us a couple of times!  For the last half of the show Maynard (the singer) had to hold a towel infront of his mouth because the smoke was making it incapable to sing properly.  Just goes to show you about one of the two things that I miss about Canada!

Sorry about no pictures for this entry!!  Tool are very protective about cameras recording their shows and we saw a few times when the security would jump up and wave their arms infront of digital cameras that had made it past the pat-down.  Oh, the pat-down.....  Remember kids, savour your next pat-down and treat it like it might be your last.  That's sound advice.
