They say Austria's mountains are breathtaking...

After Poland, I visited Austria, because they say it's beautiful, its friendly, mountainous, and its close to Berlin.  Well, Linz was those things, except mountainous.  I don't know why I figured Linz would be, nor do I know why no one warned me that it wouldn't be.  But it's not.  It is however friendly and charming, and off the beaten path.  I liked the modern architecture that I saw everywhere, and the exceptionally cheap hostil where I stayed.  And Linz was where I first encountered baby brie.  How ripe is that?

Unfortunate that you missed the mountains. They really are breathtaking :) If you really want to see rural, mountainous Austria, go cycling. Freewheel holidays do an excellent package. Although it's gotten rather expensive since 2006 after it was featured on a TV travel program. I went on the 'Into the Vally of the Alps' tour. Most beautiful place I've ever been. Here are some pics (I'm going to make a blog soon): http://ringo.com/photos/album.html?albumId=40999947
