Home of the Olympics...

Just a quick visit to a truly great, ancient city with lots of rich history. We stopped by the Parthenon - which was amazing as it sits perched up in the middle of the city - so it is easy to see. And, it has great views from there as well. It was designed to be a temple for Athena and has gone through some rough times (mostly wars!) - and is currently being restored using ancient techniques...it has 15-20 more years to go. Hence the giant cranes in all the pictures! We also stopped at the first modern day Olympic stadium - which was used for the 2004 Olympic summer games as well. The city apparently has been cleaned up quite a bit and seems to have an excellent public transportation system that was installed for the 2004 games. We didn't really have much of an opportunity to see the city as we headed off to Egypt later that day.
I want a medal if I survive my tour!
