After a bus ride through to Chile from Argentina we took a four day boat trip through the fjords to Southern Patagonia with Navimag. The route was through channels around the many tiny mountainous islands and some snow capped volcanoes. We saw dolphins along the route and the weather changed from sunshine to snow storms when we pulled into port at Puerto Natales. The four days flew on the ferry and mainly revolved around eating much to Terry´s delight and a gallon of rum - hic hic!In fact John is still recovering as I type. Waking up this morning surrounded by snow capped mountains reflected in the still water took my breath away but that could have also been the snow storm I dodged on the way to get breakfast in the dining room.

Our last night as you may have presumed contained much intake of rum but also silly games with our shipmates and John hiding under the table (not part of the silly games!)
Since the boat journey we have spent time bumbling around southern Chile and took a bus back over the border into Argentina to see the huge glacier at El Calafate - Perito merano. The glacier is immense - 5km wide, 180m deep in places and constantly growing forward, 2m a day. Huge chunks of ice break off continously into the largo argentina water, creating a sound like thunder and mini iceburgs. We were given crampons and trekked on the glacier, but in order to reach it we had to take a boat through the mini icebergs - it was great fun! I think John thought the best part was after our trek being given whiskey chilled with ice directly from the glacier.
