The night before we started

Since both of our wilderness applications we rejected and we needed to get a permit byjust walking in, we thought we would go to Yosemite the night before so we could  get in line at the ranger stations.

We arrived at Yosemite around 11:30pm and decided to camp outside of our car under the stars. Because of the time of night, we quickly parked at a spot, layed out our tarp and unstuffed our sleeping bags. There were what appeared to be two other parties on both sides of us doing the same thing as were were doing.

As I went to bed three things really stuck out to me, the first was that my wife was a little nervous about sleeping under the stars, second that the stars were so beautiful, and the third was that there was a stragne looking object on or near the tree that stood about seven feet from the foot of our sleeping area. In the morning, I looked up and saw that the campers to the right of us had hung their food from the tree right over us. Not only was it funny that we had decided to sleep right under the hung food, but it was exciting to think about what it would have been like to be the stump that a bear might use to better reach a bag of food. :) Kristin (my wife) was happy that there were not any bears nearby. :)

We woke up around 5:30am the next morning and we quickly on our way to Tuolumne meadows.
