We had a nice sunny ferry crossing from Algeciras to Tangier and getting out of the port at Tangier to the hotel wasn't actually as bad as we thought it might have been - the secret definitely seemed to be to keep on moving at a reasonable pace and to pretend we knew where we were going. Luckily we spotted the hotel fairly early on so managed to do this without showing the fatal weakness of looking at a map.

The hotel turned out to be great. It was a slightly run down classic hotel full of elaborate Moroccan tiling etc. inside and with several sunny terraces looking over the chaos of the port.

La shukran - no thank you.....

Our excursion into the Medina later on was quite an experience, though. It's almost impossible to know where you're going as the streets don't have names and all look the same and people were constantly approaching us to try to make us go to 'special Morrocan restaurants/hotels' etc. When we declined they simply decided to follow us wherever we went. Amazingly we did manage to find the Kasbah, but by then a tag team of hustlers putting on Scottish accents were in operation and openly refused our requests to let us look around on our own, so we decided to retreat to the hotel. We found one of them on guard outside the hotel the next morning when we left the hotel to catch the bus to Chefchaouen!
