Touring Frankfurt and the Surrounding Area

So, after over twenty-four hours traveling, I managed to finally arrive in Frankfurt, via a six-hour layover in Chicago as well as a stop in Philadelphia--a surprise for me as well as everyone I talked to.

That day I slept a little bit then went around Frankfurt.  Now, my sister lives in Offenbach, a little suburb outside of Frankfurt.  So, we drove to Frankfurt and walked around and saw a lot of different sights.  Some of the highlights were Römerberg--the old central square with restored fourteenth- and fifteenth-century buildings--, Frankfurter Dom--a tower which survived the 1944 WWII bombing--, and Eisernersteg--a bridge built by the people, for the people.

I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have been exhausted at the end of each day.

While there, I met her uncle who also knew my dad.  We spent a couple of hours in a restaurant talking; well, I actually sat and listened while my sister, her mother, and her uncle spoke German.  It was fun to just sit and relax.  Also, because he knew my dad we were able to talk a little bit about him.  It was reallz like meeting another uncle, even though we really aren´t related.

And so ended Thursday with some new experiences and an exhausting day of hearing German.

FRIDAY

So, the next day is Friday.  This day, we spent a lot more time touring Frankfurt.  I saw more places of interest--Main Tower, Frankfurt´s highest public viewing platform; Goethe Haus, the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe; Alte Oper, the old opera house; Fressgasse, aka Munch Alley where there are many restaurants and pubs; and Börse, the Frankfurt stock exchange.

Okay, so that wasn´t all I saw, but that is many of them.  I also experienced the German keyboard.  Yes, I say experienced because I am still getting used to it.  Also, on this day I experienced different forms of travel as well as planning our trip to Paris.  Yes, I am going to Paris for three days, and I am so looking forward to it.

SATURDAY

Ah, the day of the market.  Here, we stayed mostly in Offenbach.  We went to the local farmer´s market and met her godmother, godfather, friends, and other near-relatives.  After talking with her godmother and godmother´s brother, we had coffee, lunch, and then walked to a very good tea store.  The truffles and chocolate and tea are all very good.

We finished the day off with a trip to Frankfurt once again where I continued to tour; however, by this time, I actually know where I am and somewhat how to get to where I want to be.

This is how my short trip in Offenbach and Frankfurt have been.  I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have been exhausted at the end of each day.

Hi, BethAnn! Wow, you seem to be having a great time. I'm impressed you are able to communicate without speaking German. Ahh, facial expressions and body language are universal, are they not? :-] I'm eager to see some pictures! Take care
