Day 1

Got to Brussels bright and early Sunday lunchtime, with a backpack on my back I managed to work out where my hostel was, not as far or as hard to find as I thought.

There's a boy pissing in a fountain...?

First thing first-the most inportant thing:they have free internet access at the hostel, lol

Once I'm all sorted and I arm myself with a use it map/guide (written by young traveller for young travellers) and start to do some exploring.

Brussels is pretty, I smell chocolate, beer and weed..? yes there appears to be a crazy women singing and talking loudly to herself and everyone else with a massive spliff in her hand-must be the sun(did I forget to mention that the weather is quite warm

Sunday everyone appears to be out, I find myself at Grand Palace, apparently it's not all the real deal, and there's a mock up over another building of what it will eventually look like.

I follow the crowd and find myself at Mannaquin Piss, a little boy peeing in the fountain-not entirely sure what all the fuss is about, its quite small

Day 2

I decide to make this the day of visiting a fez museums and seeing how many comic strip walls I can find (they're all marked on the map but I thought this would be more fun). The gay "district" is marked by a comic of 2 men holding hands

I make my way to the comic meuseum-I'm not sad honsest, it has some amazing stuff, and a reading corner! If only I could read French. Look a comic of the smurfs! Who knew. Of course they have Tin Tin and Persepolis

Off to Royal Palace, I sit in the park and mark out the places I want to visit in Ghent. I've done a lot of walking and I've seen everything Brussels have to offer; its a nice place; but I think 2 days is enough

Things I have learnt

  • Cyclists rule! If you see any get out of the way otherwise they will knock you down
  • Chips are better than fries but not better than chips from my local
  • Waffles are a main meal in the themselves
  • Choclate is still good though cheaper to buy from the supermarket
