The following day was early but we made good time and arrived in Porto Seguro earlier than anticipated.  After pitching the tent at a campsite about 4km out of town we headed to the beach opposite for some rays and ball games in the water.  It was still hot and humid throughout the night and after dinner, we headed into town for drinks.  Porto Seguro is a holiday town and was still celebrating its carnaval. The town is small with one main drag along the beach and into town, where there were lots of market stalls selling touristy items, drinks and food.  There were also a lot of pavement cafes and restuarants as well and the atmosphere was still buzzing along the town. The town was also the site of the first portuguese landing and has a stone landed down to prove it!

Following morning, decided that the tent was too hot and sticky and Julie and I headed to the hotel next door where we got a room with air conditioning (not great but better than the tent) and a jacuzzi, balcony and 2 great pools.  Kieran was already there having checked in the night before and later Truman and Euan also checked in.  Spent the day around the pool in the heat of around 40 and later on, after siesta time finished which is around 4pm, headed into town for a look around the shops.  First through we headed to an ice cream shop where you pay by weight and after the ice cream you have a choice of sauces and toppings.  Fantastic.  Looked around the shops but these were mostly tourist shops selling a range of shell and wooden goods and t-shirts (much like UK seaside shops). It was then back to the campsite for tent down and then later for a pizza dinner and then back to the air-conditioned room to watch Harry Porter on Neil´s DVD player.
