The drive from Murphys to Vegas was a long one so we decided to stop off roughly half way at Bakersfield. Nothing much went down, we arrived pretty late and just headed to bed after watching TV in the Hotel. We've actually been staying in quite a few hotels during the US leg of the trip rather than hostels because contrary to what you might expect, the hotels often worked out cheaper. This is only because we're travelling as four and share a double room which in most cases will have 2 queen or king sized beds. We've been paying around $35-$40 a night each for hostels, sometimes staying in shared dorms where as you can often get a hotel / motel for around $70 a night for 4 people so it works out pretty cheap!

Anyways, nothing much happened in Bakersfield other than a trip to buy a tent for camping at the Grand Canyon, we found a cheap 6 man tent for only $50 at Walmart.

So we'd bought a cheap tent, we were on the way to Vegas, we couldn't be happier, unfortunately all that was to change to next day...
