Big Sur overwhelms you, even if you just take a day hike to climb the ridges, cross the creeks, discover the foggy ocean views. Being able to camp underneath the stars, 10 miles away from cars, out of cell phone range, right by a little creek was heaven.

Of course, carrying a very heavy pack in the heat, up and down the hills of Pine Ridge Trail can be a challenge, and can cause whining, whimpering and many many breaks. I'll admit I had moments of wondering when the heat exhaustion would take affect....
