I was sitting in my room one day feeling depressed about living in London when an old school friend that I haven’t spent any significant time with for about 13 years (I saw him briefly about 8 years ago) phoned me up out of the blue. Turns out he’s living in Scotland with his lovely fiancée, Justine. So when Easyjet had a winter sale we quickly grabbed 2 return tickets for 60 pounds total (ridiculous isn’t it) to go visit him.

About a week before we we’re meant to leave, Kobus (my mate) lets me know that he’s organised his stag night for when we’re there. Not sure if it was coincidence or not, but it was very cool cause we got to meet some locals in a rather jovial environment. Two things struck me about Glasgow. The surrounding areas are absolutely beautiful, and the people are unbelievably friendly. I was so impressed by these two features that I’m seriously considering moving up there. Alison seems pretty keen and it looks like we’ll both get jobs pretty easily, so watch this space.

We really did not take enough photos but the two most important events of the weekend were pretty well documented. The stag night (obviously) and a short (rather hungover) day trip to Loch Lomond, the biggest fresh water body in the UK. Apart from this Kobus also managed to take us for a walk around the west end and the Glasgow University area, where we had a beer in an old converted church. Sounds blasphemous I know but it works kinda well. And on our last day we spent some time walking through Glasgow’s inner city. They do have some really interesting architecture (and that’s saying something coming from someone who has no interest in architecture whatsoever).
