Rocky Mountain National Park
From Alaska Trip 2006 in Estes Park, United States on Sep 17 '06
Elk, Elk, Elk!!! We had a couple of days before we the meeting in Denver, so we decided to add Rocky Mountain National Park to our itinerary. We were here 12 years ago and Estes Park has really grown. When we arrived Monday, we found Trail Ridge Road was closed due to snow, but it opened Tuesday and we were able to drive across to Grand Lake. On the east side of the park we saw Elk and mountain sheep. On the west side of the park we saw two moose and a coyote. Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous road with a visitor center at 11,796 feet of elevation. The air was crisp and cold on top of the mountain, the scenery was magnificent.
The Elk are getting close to rut and we saw almost 100 in one meadow.
