Before I hit town, I stopped by the Madison River- with a bunch of other folks- and watched a herd of elk mosey along the shore. They made the strangest noise calling to each other- it sounded like a hawk- almost a bleat. My hostel was really just a dorm room in this beautiful historic hotel right down town. There was one other girl staying there- a grad student from Baltimore on a road trip through the Rockies. We had a good time sharing adventure stories. The town is very touristy, but I got a very nice dinner, hand made chocolates and a new book even though I haven’t finished with Dorian Gray yet. This book store was so full that display tables were just boards on piles of more books- very inspiring. I took a whole day off to do all of the banal necessities- shower, mail, laundry, sleep late, email- and I went to the museum and a movie. The museum is in the old train depot that brought tourists to the park 100 yrs ago. They also had neat displays about the 1988 fire and 1959 earthquake.
