After touching down in KL, we quickly realized that the culture shock would be minimal- the signs were english, the lights to 7-11 shone, there were taxis instead of tuk tuks, and our hotel was situated beside a giant mall. we spent our first nite touring around china town, seeing the main tourist strip, and filling up on treats in which we could actually read the package at 7-11. Our first full day was spent touring the city. We got up bright and early armed qwiht our tourist map, and quickly realized that there is not a single straight road in KL, and that our animated cartoon map was not very efficient. As avid travellers however, we eventually found our way, and went to the main square with the big flag pole, got dressed in muslim clothes to visit the national mosque, and then wandered to the two sets of towers, and in amongst the posh shopping scentres. That evening we set out to take in some of the nite life. Upon seeing the familiar sites of TGI Fridays, we had our hearts set, and enjoyed a delicious meal. Followin g this we ended up at a beach club bar that was full of both muslim men doing very sdtrange 80's dances, and western drunk guys pretending that they werre fabulous. there was a cover band singing everything from bon jovi to shakira, the washrooms in the club were coed, and soon in the evening we met a couple of decent guys (one from MTL) that vowed to be our body guards, so it was a good time. We danced the nite away like crazy, amongst the shark tanks and strange crowd at the beach club. The following morning we set out for the airport, and arriving 30 minutes early found out that we were at the wrong airport termoiinal, and needed to take a bus. after a mad airport run, we reached the ticket counter which had already been closed for 15 minutes. Luckily, court batted her eyes at the check in man, and we were allowed to proceed through, but definitely just in the nick of time.... never a dull moment in KL....
