From Perth to Adelaide in a Week!
From AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND in Adelaide, Australia on Feb 25 '08
Perth was...well there are not many words to describe Perth. It is just Perth. Looking back we had a wonderful time there and met alot of cool people - but I'd have to say I dont think I'd go back again. I feel I have done everything - ever possible - to do in Perth.
We visited Marly and her family for the day, and drove around all the "hot spots" of the city. We then had some icecream and head back for hotdogs&hamburgers. Then next morning we packed our swim suites and head to Rottsnest Island for some tanning, snorkling and quokas (which are possibly the cutest animal ever!) The next day we packed our backpacks and said goodbye to our beloved Perth. We head out with John&Christina in their beautiful luxury caravan. We were on our way to Dunsborough.
One thing about Perth is that if you find the right places, they sure are amazing. We loved the Irish Pub and the Dunes where we met the infamous Luke, and Alan - who pretty much sums up Perth ... for me. :)
Dunsborough was amazing. It really is no where special to go but heading to Yellingup beach to have a swim and watch the sun set is spactular. Dave - the hostel manager where we stayed, the Beachouse, took us to the beach at night to watch the sun go down and have a beer - and to me that is what Oz is all about. We stayed in Dunny for 3 days and I was very sick with a sore throat - I was in bed the whole first day unfortunately. We then caught a bus to Margaret River.
I forgot to mention, while in Perth, Rachel and I put up two signs in a backpackers travel store and one night these French guys "Juden" called us...and they wanted to give us a lift to Melbourne. We arranged a meeting time and they picked us up outside of Hensman - which is where J&C lived. There were 5 French guys waiting outside a large yellow bus. Smoking and drinking and listening to music. We hoped on the bus, chatted for a while - and pretty much fell in love with them. After many days delebrating...we decided to take their offer and travel to Melbourne with them.
So in Margaret River they picked us up and we went shopping for Pierros birthday that night. We got stake and rice. Mm mm mm. We then drove to a beach and spent our first night drinking (well not me, as I was sick) and eating and dancing right by the ocean. Beautiful!
And now it has been over a week, and living on the bus - is wel a mixture of many things. First off we love our new family: Pierro, Guillam, Maggie, Julien and Romain and wouldnt trade them for the world. And Rachel and I are doing our best to feed and cook for ourselves. It is quite hard sometimes - especially when you have no fridge or oven or microwave. So balancing healthy foods and surving has been a little bit of a challenge. But we usualy have a good balance of fruit, cereal (without milk), pita&humas/peanut butter, then cucumbers/beans and some pasta and some meat ocassionally. So all is well.
And i must say I am quite proud that I have gotten over my fear of not showering every day. Since we have no showers, free and public seem to be the best - and those only come around prolly every 2-3 days. So mmm, lets say I've gotten used to living without showers. And four boys too...
And we arrived in Adelaide so we are halfway done our trip to Melbourne. And let me say it is soooooo nice to be in the city!! So Adelaide is beautiful but a city, like any other city in the world. And we spent the last two days here wandering around cities, museums, markets, backerpackers hosteling, etc.
So life in Oz is great.
And tonight we are leaving Adelaide to head down the great ocean road for Melbourne! :)
Lots of love.
