The Great Ocean Road

After finally getting the car stereo fitted in Melbourne, we continued our journey with sound along the Great Ocean Road. The highlight of this part of the trip had to be the wild koalas everywhere! I now love koalas! They’re so funny – moving slowly and just looking really dopey. Apparently they use so much energy detoxifying their food that their brains are the size of a shrivelled walnut! Manoj was driving at one point and one jumped out of the tree at the side of the road and ran across in front of us! It looked like an Ewok from Star Wars! Anyway, Manoj pulled over so I went to investigate. It was a curious thing and just sat in the tree looking at me while I snapped away. I think I got a bit too close though because it started flexing its claws so I made my retreat swiftly – they could take an eye out I reckon! The sights along the Great Ocean Road were stunning – sheer sandstone cliffs and rock formations. The weather was a little iffy but it made it all the more exciting wrapping up warm in our coats and standing on the edge of a cliff in the blustery wind as the waves crashed below us!
