The Lost World
From To South America and beyond... in Iguazu Falls, Argentina on May 21 '08
The Argentinian town of Iguazu, a forgettable grid of tarmac & shrubbery, layered with dust. To the senses it has an unshakable Brazilian feel. Surrendering itself to it´s larger Brazilian cousin, ´Foz de Iguazu´. For the keen traveller there´s little to amuse beyond the centrepiece, beyond the Iguazu Falls.
One of the largest curtains of water in the world. Criss crossed with wood decking for those who can´t walk on water. This blanket of jungle shrouded in natural wildlife pulls you inexorably into a Lost World.
Water hovers everywhere and hoovers up everything.
This is an underwater Lost World. For above surface, hoards of turists parade business like from humid jungle, to flowing water to crashing cascade. Like the water around them, the busy bees hurry from one site to another. Falling over themselves to watch the devious ways of nature.
Yet, this theme park cannot fail to impress. Yes, there´s unnecessary competition between both political sides of the Falls. Yes, there´s lots of people and it´s expensive. But make room for allowances, pick a bench and absorb the views, like I did. Don´t take a boat to the ´Garganta del Diablo´ just to prove water is wet, like I did.
