Mongolia: Ulaan Bataar again

Friday 22^nd September and Saturday 23^rd September

A busy 2 days of rushing around, souvenir shopping, catching up on emails and finalising our next train trip. We’d asked our hostel manager – Idre – to pre book some rail tickets for us whilst we were out in the desert, a service he offers, only to find that the train we wanted on Sunday, only released its seats at Saturday midnight, ie, 8 hours before departure time. We had to trust and rely on him to secure these for us as our Mongolian visa expires on Tuesday and other train options to Beijing would be too late. With this uncertainty constantly in the back of our minds we managed to do everything else we needed to do and to sample some pretty good UB restaurant pizzas. On Saturday afternoon Idre came to us with the news that he could get our tickets but could only collect them at 1am in the morning!! We had to be ready to leave at 7am as the train is at 8am! We packed up, went out for a last meal in Mongolia and had an early night.
