"Sunsets, sun-bathing, fly-fishing and Jelly fish frisbee!"

We hit Fiji a week ago now and spent 1 night on the mainland before we took the Yasawa Flyer (a huge catamaran containing a million backpackers and a few tourists) off to Nanuya Island Resort on the island of Nanuya Lailai. The island is idyllic with clear blue waters, palms, beautiful sandy beaches, glorious weather and very few other people! Our accommodation is a tree-top Bure - which is a tradtional Fijian hut made of wood with an outdoor bathroom and most mod-cons like hot water and air-conditioning - no TV though! You can have a browse around the resort at this website: www.nanuyafiji.com.

I'd like to say that we've been having an action-packed time and tell you all about the activities that we've been doing...however that's probably not quite true! Actually we have spent 6 glorious days getting up around 8.30am..breakfast of fresh fruit, muffins etc at around 9am..sunbathe, swim and snorkel until around 2pm..then lunch..bit more reading and lying around in the sun (or that shade as it is soooooo hot)..maybe a jelly fish throwing contest with an Aussie couple we met (the jelly fish don't sting here apparently - but there's loads of them and the boys like using them for frisbees - obviously not too much..no animal cruelty here!)..chill out and snooze around 4pm..showr..sunset cocktails at 5.30pm..fantastic dinner around 7pm (after star-gazing a little) with fresh fish and meat..more drinks and then bed by around 9.30pm! It's such a hard life!!! In all honesty though, the food is amazing here and is cooked by a Fijian chef who does a great job of changing the menu every day according to the fresh produce that he can lay his hands on and it is all divine. The owner Lance is clearly doing a good job of keeping this place in shape for his international guests and their every whim - be it food, activites or pure relaxation (we haven't tried the massage yet but hear that it's great!)
No dramatic hallucinagenic moments though...I think you need 15 bowls to get like that!

Actually Nick has just reminded me that he has done a couple of dives (I was too busy relaxing!), we also swam in some caves at the location for Blue Lagoon and quite scarily had to swim under water to get into one. Nick was disgusted that we didn't casually bump into Brooke Shields - oh well! We also spent a couple of hours fly-fishing and troll-fishing... sorry that doesn't mean fishing for trolls it means pulling your line behind the boat. We had a fab time and were in awe at the skill of our captain (Henry) who did a great job of the fly-fishing. However, unlike one of the girls that we met the other day who caught an 8.9kg Barracuda, we just caught around 10 mackarel which weren't handed over to us for dinner, they were only considered good enough for bait! One of the mackarels I caught though just came out with his head and no body...apparently a Barracuda had taken advantage of my catch and had eaten him! How rude! We also walked over the island to a backpacker resort and realised that maybe we aren't really backpackers..or certainly our budget is a little different. They keep coming over here every day (slack-jawed) for the beach and the cocktails. Equally a bit of kayaking has been done and a ceremonious Kava night where Nick dabbled in a couple of bowls and felt his tongue go numb (tasted like washing-up liquid so he says!). No dramatic hallucinagenic moments though...I think you need 15 bowls to get like that!

Anyway, tomorrow we are off to a different resort for 5 nights and then another for 3 nights. We haven't yet been able to upload photos...but probably by the time you've read this you'll have hopefully gotten the picture and can wait with baited breath for Nick's marginal shade of cappucino soon!
