Well, we finally made it out of the city of San Jose into a little town in the mountains called La Fortuna. So glad to have finally arrived and settled in. The trip up here was a pure nightmare. We decided that the cheapest and most efficient way of getting here would be via public transportation, aka...THE BUS! Never again would we endure the 4 1/2 hour ride through winding mountain roads, no air conditioning and first come, first serve sitting. Theft is a major issue and whenever the bus stopped we had to get off and make sure our backpacks weren´t being stolen from the baggage compartment.

La Fortuna, is by far the most amazing town that we have seen. The town itself is really small but there has been so much to do. We´re staying in an eight bed hostel( Arenal Backpackers), with some girls from the US and Sweden. It´s alot easier than I thought it would be, but one shower between all of is is ridiculous. Especially, since we have to shower like three times a day, because the humidity is so high. Wish you guys could check out the hair, I think I have set a record with how big, frizzy and unmanageable it can be.

We´ve been keeping really busy, booked ourselves into some day tours and are enjoying all the sites. Yesterday, we booked a jungle trek to see the Arenal volcano erupt. Not the climax we anticipated, but definitely glad we did the 2 hour hike up the mountain. The jungle itself is unreal, we saw some monkeys and a really discusting poisonous yellow snake. It was dark by the time we reached the top and we were able to see the lava. It was pretty cloudy last night so a lot wasn´t visible, but we are still able to say we saw the 2nd most acitve volcano in the world.

After the volcano, we headed to the Baldi Spa. It´s a mineral water hot springs that is heated by the volcano. You guys can´t even begin to understand how posh this place was. It definitley does not compare to The Banff hot springs. It felt more like something out of the Roman era . The spa consisited of about 15 different pools, each with a different temperature. Some were so hot you couldn´t even put your feet in. The area itself, was made of marble like stone, with palm trees, and the jungle itself surrounding us. There were swim up restaurants, and bars. Definitley worth the $18 dollars it cost to go. Not to mention all the eye candy you were sure to see with the European men in their speedos, and the woman showering under the waterfalls. Quite exotic really.

So what better, way to end the night than to head out to the local DISCOUTEQUE. Another spanish night club. Headed out in cab, (at least I think it was a cab), we flagged down on the street. It turned out to be one of those nights, you didn´t expect. The kind of night where you end up dancing till 3am, are sweating like something out of a Shakira video, and forget that you have to go white water rafting at 8am. Me and Jack met up with a group of three Irishmen, and can honestly say that they are definitely the most funny and ridiculous men that we have ever met in our life. The humour is something like ours but, even more sharp. After last night, I will definitley have a new appreciation for a handle bar mustache, red cut off jean shorts, Davis hasselhoff and the Vietnam war. All because of a backpacker we met that had all these qualites and I am sure Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Definitely plan to meet up with them in the near future.

Well, have a busy day ahead of us and will tell you how we do on the white water rafting. Definitley did not make it today, but plan on going tomorrow. Most likely will head out to a waterfall today...

Ciao

Ummm, ya.... this weekend for me included driving to Swan Hills in the snow to visit my parents. No handlebar mustaches, no red cutoff jean shorts, and no Pammy.

Hi Pammy, I was surprised to get your first entry since I didn't even know you were travelling! Thanks for including me. My Friday night was almost as exciting as yours, I changed some diapers and paced the floor. I was up till 3am though. Be safe.
