After a few days in Penang I was happy to be moving on to another location. I took the ferry across to the island of Langkawi. This is a really popular island for both travelers and locals as it has amazing beaches, great sunsets and duty free booze! I stayed in a quieter area of the island called Pantai Tengah at Zackry’s hostel. This was a great spot – the owners were awesome and the hostel was really relaxed. I spent the first few days on the beach reading and jumping in the water. The best experience by far though was renting a scooter for 2 days. I was so nervous when I first started driving it (the drivers in Malaysia are nuts!), but after the first day I had the hang of it. I zipped around the island checking out the Seven Wells Falls (where I met a wonderful woman named Kaur who is from KL… we hungout and drank coconut juice together), Tangjung Rhu the (most beautiful beach I have seen so far) and also went up the Langkawi cable car. The cable car was amazing as it gave you a amazing view of the islands and I could even see Thailand! I must have stayed up there for 2 hours, just wandering around and playing with my camera.

Langkawi was by far my most favorite place on that trip. I’m going back in January with a bunch of teachers so I already can’t wait for that! This trip was exactly what I needed… it was a good way for me to relax, regroup and best of all – spend some time with myself! I am looking forward to more solo adventures:)

Hi, I am looking for a nice hotel to stay in Langkawi, where there is Padi diving center nearby, and could also find some programs in the evening not far from the hotel. No need for an expensive hotel but it should be clean with own bathroom, aircon and internet. If it has own inhouse facilites like pool, snooker... even better. Any suggestion? Thanks.
