I AMsterdam
From Contiki Tour in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Jun 11 '07
Crazy place Crazy times!! I sure got an eye full of the red light district and learnt new ways to smoke a cigar. Also was quick to discover the difference between a "coffee shop" and a "cafe".
We went out after the red light show, walked past tiny alleys with windows full of girls from different cultural backgrounds, curtains open meant have a look, curtians closed meant occupied, the rooms were tiny, maybe 2-3 m wide. We were at some club dancing around and next thing this middle ages man is stumbling around looking drunk adn out of it. he must have rubbed someone the wrong way because he was pushed back and hit the floor hard with his head, everyone stood around silently, he stood up dazed adn confused, bloood gushing from above his eye, but it didnt register. he wipped it away but now it was squirting! i was shocked staff werent assisting him, i quickly grabbed a napkin to pass to him, he stumbled around i went to pass it and at teh last minute freaked out remembering he could have AIDS or something and i threw it, it fell to the ground. Everyone felt unsettled and we decided to leave back to camp. There we no buses around, we waited for ages with a group of people. It got riduculous everyone was tired and annoyed. the boys hailed a cab quickly leaving the otehrs behind to wait and calling me across quickly to go with them. Im so happy they have got my back. I am definately part of taht group, they are always choosing nme as their fourth man. Its nice because things can be a little rushed and crazy and I wouldnt want teh same thing that happened in Budapest to happen again. Ive grown so close to them in these days. Ill miss them soo much.
But Amsterdam outside of teh red light zone, is full of a lot of beauty that is not emphasised enough!! Quaint buildings and modern systems,
I had scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast at a cafe with Jas, Markus, Steve and Greg. We then stopped for a coffee.. well i had a cofee, they enjoyed other things. Then with the paranoia the remrant museum was unfortunatly out of the question. We took the paddle boats and saw the city through a different eye. Of course the guys were steering with a hangover and kept paddling into bridges and in circles, Fun times!
We visited the hiding place of famous jewish girl Anne FRANK famous journals published in the most langauges in the world and ofcourse me with all my engineering background; completly illiterate knew nothing about. I was captivated and facinated to read passages of this little girls life as I walked through the rooms, hidden house in her fathers factory where she lived. Will read the book when I get back.
Mum and Dad were sure to have a laugh over the fact I didnt know the famous Anne Frank. LoL. Well I turn and laugh bcak at the education system... mum, dad what exactly are yoru occupations again??
