Scott & I were off for the second leg of our adventure – our west coast road trip! We spent our first two days making our way to southern Utah with our sights on hiking in the national parks. Not the most exciting drive, but packed with crosswords, travel guides, sudoku, CDs, etc – we had a great time. And for those who haven’t stopped at Whiskey Creek in North Platte, Nebraska, we highly recommend a stop for dinner. Great BBQ – specifically the brisket. Quite a nice surprise…..who knew!

Our first real stop was Moab, UT which is very near Arches National Park. We were certainly impressed with the park.  Nature certainly does bring about some lovely sights!  The creation of these magnificant arches is all about a combination of salt, sandstone, rock, water and many millions of years of geological change.

We hit a couple of great hikes in one day since we hade limited time. We chose a seven mile hike called the Devil’s Garden in the early morning (temps get to 90 mid-day so early is good) and saw plenty of beautiful archesa along the way. The landscape arch in Devil’s Garden is over a football field in length and quite impressive. Our evening walk included a trek to the Delicate Arch – a must see at sunset. Just a stunning structure – massive and set up on a natural pedestal.

Too bad we didn’t have more time, as there are plenty of opportunities of river sports as the Colorado river runs right nearby. Next time – whitewater rafting!!
