We had a very long day travelling, firstly we flew to Chile where we had intended to spend a week or so, before our schedule got crushed due to availability around Christmas, then we flew to Auckland a few hours later. The total trip duration was around 20 odd hours and we lots a day going over the international date line.
First impressions of Auckland were how like England it was. They drive on the correct side of the road, speak english, have baked beans. It's all good!
Auckland was nice city and where we stayed was in the Asian area of town. There were loads of Chinese, Japanese and Korean restuarants and I got to have my favourite Korean food (ddokk pok ki) which I've been longing after ever since my year working in Korea. Great stuff.
We spent most of our time planning our route through NZ and how we were gonna travel. We went with the Magic Bus in the end which is one of 3 travel companies catering for backpackers who do hop on hop off bus routes throughout the country. The advantage over a normal bus being that they stop off at loads of interesting little places en route which you wouldn't ordinarily see.
We went to a comedy night which was good but not really up to the standards of Manchester clubs. The compare was very funny though and suprisingly 'blue' for a female comedienne!
