After my trip up to the Bay of Islands decided to book rest of trip in New Zealand with Kiwi Experience so now had pass that would take me all the way down to Christchurch. Had the one free day in Auckland before I started which was good as got to see some of the city. The first night we would be staying in a town called Whitianga on the Coromandel Penisula. The drive from Auckland was only a couple of hours and on the way stopped at a town called Thames. In the afternoon we did a really nice walk at Cathedral Cove, it took about 40 mins each way and is place you can only get to by foot (or sea!), bit challenging on way back up! There is a really lovely beach there although was too cold for a swim but nice just to sit and relax! Was good chance to get to meet some of the people on the bus and have chat with them. Lots of other people on the bus who were travelling on their own but most seemed to be guys although were some girls too but the girls mainly seemed to be travelling with other people. The weather wasn't that good for doing many activites, stuff like Kayaking which was cancelled but instead just had time to explore the area a bit. Just got fish & chips for dinner again! Is funny seem to be haing lots of fish & chips on my trip, whereas hardly ever eat fish at home! Everyone bought few drinks from liquor store and just sat round having drink and chat at the hostel which was nice as got to chat to more people hadn't met yet and was nice as small hostel so pretty much only us staying there.
