Our campsite in Seville was Camping Villson a nice leafy place, and more importantly close to a bus into the city. Seville is quite a big city, around ¾ of a million people and much bigger than I had expected.

First impressions of the central part of the city were bad – wall-to-wall roadworks making it hard to walk anywhere. Its fair to say Spanish OHS is not up to par with the rest of the EU…

Second, Third and Fourth impressions however, made up for the first and once past the roadworks it became clear what a beautiful place Seville is. The city seems to have an extraordinary amount of parks and gardens. And not just any gardens, these are beautifully landscaped with fountains and sculptures and lovely old buildings. It was lovely in March ad would be fantastic in late spring and summer.

We did a walking tour of the old town and saw, among other things, a statue of one of the famous residents – Don Juan. We then had a lovely Tapas lunch sitting in the sunshine of a small courtyard of the old town.

We visited the Alcazar a beautiful old palace with Moorish architecture – similar although not quite as grand as the Alhambra in Granada. The gardens however are something else and worth the admission price on their own!

We also visited the Cathedral, which is the 3rd biggest in the world. “Lets build a cathedral so immense that everyone, on beholding it, will take us for madmen” – nice way to get your plans approved by council eh! To put you out of your misery, St Peters in Rome and St. Paul’s in London are 1st and 2nd biggest respectively. We climbed the Giralda, which was originally the minaret for a mosque, but now the part of the cathedral. Inside are ramps rather than stairs so the fellow who sang the call to prayer could ride his donkey to the top!

We spent 6 days in Seville including celebrating Ella’s 1st birthday. We had a rabbit cake this time for those following the cake making in a camping car saga… We really enjoyed Seville and unfortunately missed, by a week or so, the big festival before Easter but decided that was just too long to hang around :-( Off to Cordoba.
