Louisville
From Trip to Cody in Louisville, United States on Aug 20 '07
We headed further west and ended up in Louisville, KY, where we stayed for the night. The cross from WV into KY was crazy. I was driving, Jeff was asleep, to bad b.c. it would have been a funny picture. Anyway, we were driving through the mountains and suddenly you round the side of one and there’s a small bridge over a very deep canyon/river. Just on the other side of the bridge is the normal “Welcome to Kentucky” sign, but then just behind that was the largest industrial facility that I had ever seen. I’m not sure what they were producing; I didn’t see any signs, but I felt this was something that you should see when entering New Jersey (no offense Mel), not Kentucky, although it may have been a glue factory or something.
In Louisville we stayed with the Raymont family, who was nice enough to take us in for the night. It was such a relief to get to their house, they have a pool which felt amazing after driving all day, and we got to meet Debi’s (whom I worked with this summer) family. Everything was great there, they were extremely welcoming. Wed. Jeff and I headed into downtown Louisville around 10:30. We walked up and down Main Street, where we saw Michael Grave’s Humana Building. Mr. Raymont said the Muhammad Ali museum was worth seeing so we stopped there and then we went to the Louisville Slugger Factory. I wanted to get a bat for Alan, but the personalized ones just weren’t the right price for a “just for nothing” gift… sorry bro. He got a postcard instead. We mostly just stuck to Main Street in Louisville; that was where most of the stuff seemed to be. We drove around a bit and saw 4th Street Live, but we got there mid day so there wasn’t much activity. Apparently the REX building (something that Jeff and I really wanted to see) hasn’t started construction yet, so that was disappointing. We did see a small exhibition on the project though.
I wish all of our sleeping accommodations were as nice as the house we stayed in here!
Check out all of the pictures – and look at how big that bat is compared to me!
AND: Main Street had some crazy bike racks, again all in the pictures!
