Woken up at 8.00 by phone & our hearts raced as we thought it could be baby news from home. We lay in bed listening to Myrna's voice from the kitchen and realised it couldn't be be news of that but it must be someone calling from England, most probably Andy's Mum. Got up to discover it was and Myrna passed Andy the phone. When Andy finished chatting we ate breakfast , showered and then got ready to begin another day of journal work. Before we did, we checked our emails to find that Alan & Thomas (our previous employers) had been in national newspapers in the UK and on tv there regarding their prevention on communial birthday cards for age discrimination reasons. It was totally unreal being 9,000 odd miles away and reading that little old A&T from Bournemouth was making big news back home! After recovering from that shock we began work on the web page until 1.30 when we stopped for lunch and carried on after until just before 3.00 an d had managed enter on another week of journal and pictures. Dan and Elissa arrived back from Uni and we got changed to go hiking. Andy drove all four of us to Mt Work, just past Butchart Gardens, anout 15 mins from Myrna's. Here we met Dan's climbing partner Chris and around 3.30we began the 4km hike to the mountain summit. The trail was quite steep in places as we hiked up through the woodland and climbed up and over areas of rock. Once at the summit we had worked up a bit of a sweat as it was a warm 23 degrees. From here we had good views of a lot of the surrounding area, down south-west towards Sooke & north past Mt Doug and up island with the large Saanich inlet. We saw some large paw prints which Chris said looked very much like bear markings, but we later found out that he was having us on! As you'd expect the hike down was a lot easier and we both spent quite a while chatting to Chris. We learnt that he'd just come from a lunch meeting with his friend who was the physio for the 1966 England World Cup winning team and who was now looking after Sean Connery ! At the bottom we said our goodbyes to Chris and we doubt we'll get to see him again before we leave (such a nice person) and drove back to East Saanich. On the way we grabbed a dvd (40yr old virgin) from the movie store to watch later. We spent the next hour doing more journal before helping Myrna bring in the shopping. We went over to Elissa's for 7.30 and had some wine / beer before enjoying a lovely Thai meal that both Dan and Elissa had very kindly cooked from scratch - so delicous! We had some pumpkin pie and then introduced them to the joys of Little Britian via the internet before going downstairs to watch the dvd which was v.funny. The move didn't finish until 1.00 and as we'd been drinking we crashed in the spare room. A really lovely evening.
