The day had finally dawned when the adventure would come to an end, it was a sad day, but I was grateful to be going home. We started very early in the morning, it was still dark and cold, the roads were relatively clear, but the usual crowd of ‘helpers’ met us at the airport. My bag passed the weight test and I passed through to the departure area, unlike flying from Heathrow there is very little sitting and waiting at Kathmandu. The flight to Doha was crowded, and as I sat at the very back next to the only loo in economy travel I was continually jostled, so I was glad when this flight came to an end. We did not get held up at Doha on the way back so we were soon back in the air, the second flight being much emptier so I was able to sit back and enjoy it. It was a shock to get back to the cold of England, as the cold days in the mountains had been accompanied by a warm sunshine which enabled us to wear clothing more suited to springtime in England. Back at Heathrow I caught a coach to Southampton, and my journey was rounded off with a taxi ride which left me in no doubt that I was back home as it cost me £5 to go about half a mile, approximately 10 times what it would have cost me to go the same distance in Kathmandu !!
